Summer in Macau is typhoon season. The local weather bureau forecasts 5–8 tropical cyclones affecting Macau in 2026 — about average — and early August has already seen a tropical storm pass along the Guangdong coast, with a storm signal briefly hoisted in Macau. Every time the wind picks up, we get the same two questions: “Are you open tonight?” and “Will the car still come?” Here are the full answers, worth saving for the rest of the season.

Signals 1, 3 and 8 — the visitor’s version

Macau’s tropical-cyclone warnings step up from Signal 1 through Signal 8 and beyond:

• Signal 1 — a storm exists somewhere within range. The city carries on exactly as normal.
• Signal 3 — winds strengthen. Life mostly continues, but street taxis all but vanish. This is when the free private car earns its keep: it pulls up under your hotel’s covered driveway and delivers you to our door, dry.
• Signal 8 or above — buses stop and the bridges close. Stay put, and use the free rescheduling below.

Rain without signals

Plenty of summer nights bring downpours with no signal at all. Same answer: don’t gamble on flagging a taxi in the rain — the free shuttle runs as usual, hotel lobby to front door.

The 24-hour refuge plan

Empire Sauna is open 24 hours as of August 2026 (in extreme weather, operations follow conditions on the day — message us before setting out). A stormy night inside the house is genuinely one of the best ways to spend it:

FAQ

How soon after Signal 8 is lowered does the shuttle restart? As soon as roads settle — usually within hours. Message us and we’ll tell you whether cars are already moving.

Does the car really run under Signal 3? Yes. Roads remain open under Signal 3; choose a covered hotel driveway as your pickup spot.

Any fee or re-quote when I reschedule? No fee. If the menu changes between dates, the current menu is confirmed when you book.
